Twitter Takes off

(As told by Morgan…)

This week, the newsroom really impressed me with Twitter — and I was little to no part of it! (Mike was, but we will get into yesterday’s social media presence shortly.

The week begins…

This week was so much fun to watch on Twitter, because of all the different kinds of content we were getting, especially from our meteologists — BUT — NOT limited to them, Andrew Whalen and Mike.

There was a fire at the Fusion Grille on Monday morning

News 7 used this opportunity to thread a tweet!

Awesome idea! Only thing I would have improved on is maybe addressing some context, starting with a tweet that was all text maybe saying *BREAKING* so everyone knows it’s currently happening as they read the thread, and attaching *UPDATE* to each threaded tweet.

We also took the opportunity to retweet a thread from a local organization’s Twitter page, which just so happened to be breaking and relevant as well, which I love

In Weather World…

As usual, the meteorologists kept things entertaining, and as usual, Vermont did as well with its weather.

<blockquote class=”twitter-video” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>Snow has started accumulating on the weather deck at <a href=”https://twitter.com/LyndonVSC?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@LyndonVSC</a> <a href=”https://t.co/YmEWlNSzL2">pic.twitter.com/YmEWlNSzL2</a></p>&mdash; Sarah Levesque (@SarahLevesquewx) <a href=”https://twitter.com/SarahLevesquewx/status/990768118522925056?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 30, 2018</a></blockquote>

Not ideal weather… but cool update. This was one of the few things I had to go in and retweet myself this week
Rain… a little better I guess
WHOOP THERE IT IS

The weather guys are killin’ it, as you can see, supplying us with a bunch of different graphics, provided all the different weather we’ve been experiencing.

Fire Follow up… Needed work

They gave a good effort

They followed up with the fire story, which I loved, but I think it should have been executed in a number of different ways better. First off, the breaking tweet should have been formatted similar to this as well. Secondly, this should have been ATTACHED TO THE THREAD considering that is what threads are for(!!) And lastly, I appreciate the hashtag Vee Tee, however I think a more appropriate hashtag would have been #BREAKING and/or #UPDATE

Yesterday, Mike was WP, and they had some seasoned TV journalism vets in the newsroom working alongside the show producer, and Mike did some pretty neat stuff, so that is what I am going to get into next.

Mike and Linda’s Wednesday Shift…

On Wednesday Mike and Linda were co-web producers, and had a bunch of different stuff going on, all day, which I loved, which should happen every day.

If you don’t understand the context, you obviously aren’t from the NEK

Mike opened with a poll about an NEK tradition, Joe’s Pond Ice Out, which coincides with the warm temps we got this week. We only got six votes, but we got ’em, and it’s what counts, right?

Got some more excellent weather material, thanks Peter for mixin’ it up
Apparently this week it was the hottest it has been in 217 days… I’ll take it!

Mike retweeted/quoted the mets which showed some personality and mixed it up a little

I feel this.

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>It is finally feeling like spring, and even summer here in the Northeast Kingdom with temperatures all throughout the region in the mid to upper 80&#39;s. We are at the LSC&#39;s president house with meteorologist <a href=”https://twitter.com/SarahLevesquewx?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@SarahLevesquewx</a> and give you more weather details! <a href=”https://t.co/I8hJOqqLCU">pic.twitter.com/I8hJOqqLCU</a></p>&mdash; News7/NewsLINC (@News7_NewsLINC) <a href=”https://twitter.com/News7_NewsLINC/status/991763133613137920?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 2, 2018</a></blockquote>

Got a live weather in as an opportunity to get outside….

Got a little hyperlocal…

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>We are in Lyndon State College library pond right now. Today is a great day to do outside activities, like fishing. For these college students, they don&#39;t need to go too far away to get the fresh meat. Welcome, Spring! <a href=”https://t.co/a2SiOATUYA">pic.twitter.com/a2SiOATUYA</a></p>&mdash; News7/NewsLINC (@News7_NewsLINC) <a href=”https://twitter.com/News7_NewsLINC/status/991764619436969985?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 2, 2018</a></blockquote>
<script async src=”https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset=”utf-8"></script>

And my personal favorite…

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>We are LIVE right now on Facebook! Tune in NOW for full weather and local sports! <a href=”https://t.co/c3edYUfawy">https://t.co/c3edYUfawy</a> <a href=”https://t.co/TqYv42B5tZ">pic.twitter.com/TqYv42B5tZ</a></p>&mdash; News7/NewsLINC (@News7_NewsLINC) <a href=”https://twitter.com/News7_NewsLINC/status/991795745165586432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 2, 2018</a></blockquote>

Then of course some more brilliant temps

I was not there, but I’m assuming these alum/visitors thought we were social media badasses, and it seems like they had a good time!
